Girard Academy Music Program

This new addition/renovation to Girard Academy, originally built in 1909, included the construction of a new 21,000 sf music theatre, cafeteria, gymnasium, and locker rooms, plus the renovation of existing classrooms and administrative offices. Most noteably, the scope of work involved in the construction of the 620 seat music theatre included an intricate, radial structural steel and masonry skeleton and monolithically poured-in-place concrete stadium seating. Additionally, the theatre houses a 5-stop hydraulic elevator and twin four-story glass encased staircases in the lobby, which is overlooked by a second story mezzanine. Historic restoration was performed on the existing school, as well as the incorporation of new interior finishes, furnishings, and casework. As the general contractor for this project, Magnum, Inc. coordinated all tradework, provided full-time supervision, security, and safety controls, performed CPM scheduling, layout, interior system installation, and carpentry. The completed project was turned over in March of 2009.

J. Hampton Moore Elementary School

Constructed for the City of Philadelphia, the 23,000 sf J. Hampton Moore Elementary school consists of twelve new classrooms, full service kitchen and cafeteria, restrooms, entrance lobby, and administrative offices. Site demolition of existing encumberances allowed for the new construction and exterior improvements, including new bituminous paving, curbs, sidewalks, and landscaping. Magnum, Inc. acting as GC was responsible for trade coordination, full-time project supervision, safety controls, 24-hr security, field engineering, interior system installation, mill- and casework installation, and all carpentry. The successful completion of the project took just under two years, with construction running from 2006 to early 2008.
